The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor (LGI) course is to train instructor candidates to teach the basic-level course and modules in the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Program. To take this course, candidates must:
Be 17 years of age before or on the final day of the course.
Possess a current basic-level certification in the American Red Cross Lifeguarding (including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid. Proof of certification must be submitted to the Lifeguard Instructor Trainer (LGIT) before registration closes.
Obtain all required instructor and participant course materials before starting the course.
Successfully complete the prerequisite skill assessment scenario.
This course is a blended learning format that combines an online session with in-person session conducted by a Red Cross-certified Lifeguard Instructor Trainer (LGIT). By the end of this course, Lifeguard candidates will learn, demonstrate, and receive a certificate in the skills of Lifeguard Instructor valid for 2 years. Please understand that registration does not guarantee one’s completion of the course and a certification.
This course will be held at Garber High School’s Pool Facility (in Essexville). Participants must be able to transport themselves and attend the course at this facility. Class must have 6 participants to run. The Y holds no fault should this course be cancelled due to not reaching this participant count.
