Job Title: Childcare Co-Op
Reports to: Childcare Director
Status: Part-Time
Schedule: 7:30am-10:30am or 3:00pm-6:00pm, M-F
Compensation: $12.50 per hour & FREE YMCA Membership
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Childcare Assistant Co-op will be responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher with giving care and providing a safe, nurturing environment for children in our childcare programs in accordance with the YMCA mission and core values.
JOB DETAILS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Treat all children with love, respect and dignity
- Maintain a safe, clean, and appropriate physical environment, ensuring the safety of all children at all times and compliance with all State of Michigan Licensing requirements
- Assist the lead teacher with implementing daily lesson/activity plans
- Complete incident and accident reports as necessary
- Know and follow appropriate emergency and safety procedures
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required
- Be familiar with procedures of reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protective Services
- Build and maintain positive relationships with children, families, teachers, and all staff
- Exemplify the YMCA core values of caring, respect, responsibility and honesty
- Serve as a role model always representing the YMCA with a professional demeanor
- Help with other tasks as assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a high school student eligible for Work Based Learning Program
- Must be 18 years of age
- A love for children and a strong desire to make a difference every day
- Must qualify under State of Michigan licensing to work in a childcare setting including obtaining 16 hours of training each licensing year
- Prior experience working with children required
- Training in early childhood development is preferred
- Comprehensive fingerprinting and TB Test required
- CPR and First Aid Certifications preferred
