Job Title: Fitness Floor Co-Op 

Reports to: Sports & Wellness Director 

Schedule: 6:00AM-10:00AM Monday-Friday 

Status: 6:00am-10:00am, M-F 

Compensation: $12.50 per hour & FREE YMCA Membership 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Fitness Floor Co-op provides customer service that promotes member wellness in accordance with YMCA policies and creates a safe, enjoyable, and motivational environment. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Greet and welcome members as they enter the fitness floor 
  • Provide support for staff and members on the fitness floor by answering questions and providing tours/gym orientations for new members or prospective members 
  • Monitor patrons on the fitness floor to ensure proper techniques and the safe and effective use of cardiovascular, flexibility, and strength training equipment 
  • Enforce YMCA policies and procedures to members and guests to ensure safety 
  • Help to maintain a safe, clean, and organized facility including cleaning equipment, stocking towels, filling sanitizer bottles, putting weights and equipment away 
  • Help set up classes and programs as needed  
  • Answer calls on the phone and 2-way radio as needed 
  • Assist members with in-person program registrations (using computer) 
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and training 
  • Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer service 
  • Other tasks as needed to support all departments of the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA in the spirit of teamwork 

QUALIFICATIONS:   

  • Must be a high school student eligible for Work Based Learning Program 
  • Minimum age of 16  
  • Experience in a fitness center and/or sports setting preferred 
  • Red Cross CPR/AED certification preferred

Financial AsSistance Programs

Individuals will not be turned away from participating in programs, activities, and/or membership due to their inability to pay. The Y maintains a generous financial assistance program for youth, adults, and families who demonstrate financial need. Funding for this program is provided by fundraising events at the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA and community-wide donors.
